Boy, 13, shot, still in hospital

TRIMONT — According to a page, Reese Sandmeyer, 13, of Trimont is hospitalized in Rochester after an accidental shooting.

A recent news report stated that the Martin County Sheriff’s Office was called to Trimont just after 7 p.m. Sunday for a teen who had been shot by another juvenile with a handgun. Authorities say the juvenile was handling the firearm when it accidentally discharged. No adults were present at the time.

Sandmeyer was taken by ambulance to Fairmont and airlifted to Rochester.

According to a web page, Sandmeyer was put in a medically induced coma on Monday, but has been awake at times over the past few days. A report on the page says Sandmeyer faces several upcoming surgeries, including to put in a plate for his jaw and to remove bullet fragments. It says he was shot in the face.

The page also says people can mail items to Sandmeyer at Mayo Clinic Hospital. St. Marys Campus. Patient care unit Mary Brigh 3G-558. 1216 Second St. SW, Rochester MN 55905. No flowers or balloons since he is in ICU.

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the shooting.
