‘Humor for Heroes’ coming to Blazer Bar

FAIRMONT — A quartet of comedians on a “Humor for Heroes Tour” will be making a stop at the Blazer Bar and Grill in Fairmont on Thursday night.

The four funny men are performing in 30 Minnesota cities in 30 days on a fundraising tour to support the Lone Survivor Foundation, which benefits wounded service members and their families.

Seating will begin at 6 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 per person. Blazer owner Dylan Atkinson said those individuals who sign up at the business and prepay for their tickets will be guaranteed a seat for the show. He hopes to seat 150.

“The way it was explained to me was that all proceeds from the door will go to the Lone Survivor Foundation,” Atkinson said.

The foundation’s website states that 76 percent of funds raised are used for program services, with the remainder for administration and fundraising. The organization says its mission is to restore, empower and renew hope for wounded service members and their families through health, wellness and therapeutic support. It hosts retreats for service members with post-traumatic stress, mild traumatic brain injury, chronic pain and military sexual trauma.

The four comedians who will appear at the Blazer are John Bush (the Crooner), “Fancy” Ray McCloney (the Human Chocolate Orchid), Rob Benton (the Malcontent), and Chris “Dude” Shaw (the Loose Cannon). Collectively, the comedians have more than 120 years of stand-up, musical and acting experience.

They are touring under the title of “The ‘That’ Pack,” in homage to the iconic musical/comedy team of “The Rat Pack,” comprised of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Joey Bishop and Sammy Davis Jr.

Bush has appeared on television with Conan O’Brien, on HBO and Comedy Central. McCloney, who has performed in Fairmont before, has appeared on the “Tonight Show,” “Last Comic Standing” and “America’s Got Talent.” Benton has worked coast to coast with some comedy elite such as Ellen DeGeneres, Henny Youngman and Tommy Chong. Shaw has toured with “Weird Al” Yankovich, Brian Regan and Gilbert Gottfried, and has logged TV appearances on A&E, VH1 and MTV.

“They are ‘real deal’ comedians,” Atkinson said.
