Welcome OKs no tax levy hike

WELCOME  — Welcome City Council this week approved a 2018 property tax levy with no increase from 2017’s levy.

In other business, the council:

o Set the cleanup day for Oct. 21 near the water treatment plant on Campbell Street. Welcome residents will be asked to show their driver’s license as proof that they live in Welcome.

o Rescinded a motion from last meeting to clean up the Olson property, because the property is not owned by the city. After the property is turned over to the city, the council will entertain a motion to clean it up.

o Complimented city workers on the job they did with tree trimming and removal.

o Heard a report from the Cemetery Association president, Mary Williams. The bushes were removed from the circle but weeds overran the circle as city workers were not able to work on it. The pavers and blocks were ordered and have arrived, and city workers have the cemetery on their work orders. They also will trim the pine trees. The next meeting of the Cemetery Association will be 1:30 p.m. Oct. 3 at Goldfinch. Mayor Newville will plan to attend.

o Learned that the next City Council meeting will be 6 p.m. Oct. 3 at City Hall. A time for public comment is scheduled at the beginning of each meeting. Those wishing to bring up a question are asked to contact the city clerk prior to the meeting, if possible, by calling (507) 728-8740.
