Blue Earth plans pool project

BLUE EARTH — Blue Earth City Council on Monday discussed the possible installation of an additional slide at the Blue Earth Aquatic Center.

The Center hopes to install the new slide for the facility’s 10-year anniversary. The work could happen next spring.

City Council members suggested fundraising for a portion of the money needed for the slide. They said a good goal would be to raise half of the funds, with the city providing the remainder.

Council members mentioned that refreshing the city pool with a new slide could lead to a larger refurbishment of the Center in the future, including remodeling the bathrooms.

In other business, the council discussed adjusting the public swimming pool hours, from the current noon to 8 p.m. to 1-7 p.m. for open swim hours. They also talked about adding an hour-long lap swim from 7-8 p.m. Monday through Friday.

An idea involving the lap swim hour was proposed. It was suggested that an adult swim take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, a family swim on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a teen swim on Fridays.

Turning to another matter, Tim Ibisch, Blue Earth city administrator, provided feedback on the previously discussed Public Works garage project. Ibisch proposed the idea of having a tour of the building site during the work session before the next council meeting.

In other news, the council:

o Approved raffle and event permits for the Faribault County Veterans Memorial for a fundraiser event at the Memorial building, featuring a live band the week before Labor Day.

o Approved the joint township fire contracts for the Fire Department.

o Approved a proposed order of abatement to the owner of property at 428 S. Nicollet St. after resident complaints. Present conditions of the exterior of the home are considered nuisances to nature and the order of abatement will give the property owner a deadline for exterior cleanup.

o Approved the appointment of Ken Skaare to the Housing and Redevelopment Authority.

o Approved a travel request for a building inspector to attend educational classes related to wastewater.
