SHERBURN — The Martin County West School Board this week accepted the resignations of three staff members, effective at the end of this school year.

Michelle Bedford, junior high language arts teacher; Ross Bettin, social studies teacher; and school social worker Linda Goraczkowski will be leaving.

Superintendent Allison Schmidt and school board members agreed that all three will be missed and that they are held in high regard as great assets to the school district.

In other business, the school board approved hiring Ron Helmich as junior high softball coach, Michael Andrews as junior high baseball coach and Jen Clow as summer ball coordinator.

A paraprofessional, Alissa Lein, has been hired to work at Trimont.

In another matter, the board approved a three-year achievement and integration plan and budget to help with diversity integration. As part of the plan, Butterfield-Odin and Comfrey students can come to Martin County West for summer classes.

High School Principal David Traetow reported that the senior class trip will need to raise more funds. He also noted that the juniors will register and this will help staff decide the courses that will be needed next year.

Elementary Principal Michele Baker reported she has been concentrating on math skills, and gathered information from a principals conference and workshop she attended. She noted that the networking and dialogue with other teachers and principals was helpful. She is concentrating on basic skills.

She also has implemented a Positive Behavior Intervention Plan. All buildings are sharing ideas on how to deal positively with students.

The next school board meeting will be March 20.
