‘Santa’s Shopping Spree’ slated in Truman
TRUMAN — The Lewisville American Legion Auxiliary soup and sandwich luncheon will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Lewisville Legion. Santa will be there, as well as local vendors with displays and items to sell. There will also be a bake sale for Lewisville Fun Daze. A variety of soups and sandwiches will be served. This annual event is always a great day for good food, fellowship and fun.

Truman Public School Elementary Christmas program will be 7 p.m. Monday in the elementary auditorium. Come and enjoy “An Old-Fashioned Christmas.”
n
Remember to drop off your toy donations for Truman Toys for Tots at either Elizabeth Chevrolet or Profinium by noon Tuesday so they can be wrapped and delivered in time for Christmas. Don’t forget that older kids need gifts also.
n
Kids, pre-K through sixth grade, are invited to Tuesday Craft Night sponsored by Truman Pride. You may come and go between the hours of 5-6 p.m. This free creative event will be held in the RAK room on the second floor of Truman High School.

“Santa’s Shopping Spree” for children in grades K-6 attending Truman schools, so they can come to do their Christmas shopping, will be held from 3:15-5 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Truman Community Building. Santa Claus will be there. Please have children make out their list so that they’re prepared. All gifts this year are $1.
n
Anyone wishing to donate gifts (new or gently-used) or money that can be used to buy additional gifts for “Santa’s Workshop” can bring your donations to the Truman Café. Gifts for men, women and children are needed.
Christmas shopping bags of all sizes are also needed.
This event is sponsored by members of the Truman Sorority. Each year, more than 800 gifts are purchased by the children and wrapped during this short shopping time. Each gift’s value is much more than $1, so this project is a fun way to help children shop inexpensively for their family members.
High school helpers will be on hand to help younger shoppers shop and get their gifts to the gift-wrapping area. Parents are not allowed in the shopping area so that what the children choose will be a secret until Christmas. They can, however, enjoy cider while they wait for their shoppers to shop. Parents always look forward to see what their children pick for gifts.

A spaghetti dinner fundraiser for Curtis Bressler will be 4:30-7 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Truman Public School cafeteria. The second-grade classmates of Curtis are hosting this event. Come enjoy some good food and conversation before the Lady Jags game against St. Clair. A free-will donation will help raise funds for the Bressler family.

Remember someone special by making a donation to the Mayo Clinic Health System-Fairmont hospice program. For a $5 or more donation, you can put a colored ornament on the “tree of remembrance” that will be lit 4:30 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Truman Café.
There are different ways you can remember someone special. Gold ornaments will be put on the tree in memory of a loved one. Red ornaments will be put on the tree to recognize an active or retired military member or veteran. A green ornament will be put on the tree to honor a friend, relative, group or simply to express a holiday greeting.
Lists will be posted naming who’s being honored and who made the donation. Karen Weihe, hospice nurse, will be on hand to help read off the names of individuals being honored.
There will be a reception at the Truman Café following the tree-lighting ceremony.
All money donated will be given to Mayo Clinic Health System-Fairmont hospice for local hospice care expenses. Donation forms can be filled out at the Truman Café and the three Truman Churches. There will be envelopes for donations and a box to put them in. Donations need to be made by noon on Friday to be recognized at the tree-lighting ceremony. Donations can be made, however, all through the holiday season.
Individuals wishing to donate directly to Mayo Clinic Health System-Fairmont hospice can mail information and donations to Darla Nelson-Philipp, Community Relations and Development, 800 Medical Center Drive, Fairmont, MN 56031.
If you have questions, please call Barb at (507) 776-7601 or Kathy at (507) 776-7091.
We’re hoping the tree-lighting ceremony can be an annual event.
