CER announces upcoming activities

Community Education and Recreation will hold three community activities next week. First, there will be a Lego Design 1 class for kids in grades 1-3 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. July 18-20 in cafeteria A at Fairmont Elementary School. The staff from Bee Smart Learning will teach the kids. They will learn science and math concepts while working with materials from the Lego Educational Division. The fee is $74 for all three sessions, which includes a Lego kit to take home. Call the CER office at (507) 235-3141 for registration questions. There will also be a Lego Design 2 class for kids in grades 4-8 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. July 18-20 in cafeteria A at Fairmont Elementary School. The staff from Bee Smart Learning will teach the kids. The class will focus on building Lego vehicles with Lego Technic elements from the Lego Educational Division. The fee is $74 for all three sessions, which includes a Lego kit to take home. Lastly, a Canvas Creations class for kids in grades 2-8 will be held noon to 2:30 p.m. July 18-20 in cafeteria A at Fairmont Elementary School. The children will start with a blank canvas and acrylic paints and learn the basics about brush strokes, mixing paint and basic painting techniques. All materials are supplied. College News

The following area students graduated and were awarded degrees and honors during a spring commencement ceremony May 12 on the Estherville, Iowa, campus for Iowa Lakes Community College: Dunnell — Jack Ziemer, associate’s degree in arts and associate’s degree in science; Kaitlyn Henningsen, diploma in welding (summa cum laude); Wyatt Harris, associate’s degree in applied science-wind energy and turbine technology (summa cum laude); Elmore — Tyler Loveng, diploma in welding (cum laude); Fenton — Matthew Lockwood, diploma in welding (magna cum laude); Granada — Tristan Maday, associate’s degree in applied science-agribusiness technology (cum laude); Jackson — Blaney Markman, associate’s degree in arts; Sherburn — Dakotah Bahrenfuss, associate’s degree in arts (summa cum laude).

Church to host pie, ice cream social

Trinity Lutheran Church of Welcome will host a pie and ice cream social from 1-4 p.m. Saturday during the Welcome festival.

Museum to offer ‘This Old House’

A PowerPoint program entitled “This Old House” will be shown at the Pioneer Museum in Fairmont at 2 p.m. Tuesday. There is no charge and the public is invited to attend.

Hendricksen to perform in Trimont

Glenn Hendricksen will be the featured entertainment at Trimont’s Sundaes in the Park on Sunday evening in Triumph Memorial Park In Trimont. The musical program begins at 6 p.m. Ice cream sundaes, complete with toppings, will be served for a donation. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at First Lutheran Church in Trimont.
